Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for tips.
An important political figure commented the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
