Australia's authorities have called off the operation for a four-year-old child who has been disappeared in the remote area for approximately several weeks, after renewed operations proved unsuccessful to find any evidence of the youngster.
Gus Lamont was last seen enjoying himself near his residence on a remote sheep station near Yunta, about 186 miles from Adelaide, on September 27th.
His grandmother stepped away for about thirty minutes before returning, only to discover the youngster missing, triggering one of the largest ground and aerial operations in South Australian past.
Authorities - who do not believe criminal activity - say they will persist examining, but that the situation has become a "recovery operation".
Recently, officials briefly reduced the search, only to restart it on this week alongside eighty military members.
"Official Grant Stevens said officials were looking a broader zone based on updated assessments from survivability and operation experts, rather than any fresh leads."
On the end of last week, police stated that the new search had not uncovered any signs of Gus.
"The fact that Gus is a little boy, the environment is extremely rugged, challenging and subject to unpredictable elements has made the operation demanding and more complex for those involved," officials said in a release.
About 470 sq km - an area approximately double the dimensions of urban center - has now been scanned, and a 12-person team created lately is expected to persist looking into. Authorities have not discounted additional searches of the area in the future.
The child, who has been characterized as an adventurous but quiet child, was last seen dressed in a grey cap, light grey trousers, boots and a blue long-sleeved shirt displaying a golden cartoon figure.
The case has provoked significant interest across Australia, with pictures of the light-haired, curly-headed boy shown across local media and conjecture circulating extensively online.
It prompted police to appeal that citizens discontinue calling them with their "speculations", and request for them to obtain updates from trustworthy sources.
Officials recently said the youngster's relatives stay "strong" despite the difficult situation.
"It's easy to comprehend just how they are experiencing... without having answers as to specifically where Gus is and what's occurred to him. This would be heartbreaking for all loved ones," Spokesperson the commissioner said.
Through a spokesperson, the relatives family has previously said they are "overwhelmed" by their son's loss.
"This has come as a shock to our relatives and friends, and we are finding it difficult to comprehend what has occurred," a family representative said.
"The child's absence is experienced in everyone, and we long for him more than expressions can describe."
